Chiefs continue to meet

The Great Council of Chiefs meeting continues today amidst much controversy. The Chiefs will today decide on the appointment of Fiji's President and Vice-President, and the recommendations of the Acting President on the Fiji Court of Appeal decision.

Media reports today indicate that there was much dissension at the meeting yesterday with Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Ratu Talemo Ratakele questioning why were they invited as observers and not as members. The Fiji Times reports today that one chief, Ratu Mai Verata Ratu Ilisoni Qio Ravoka saying that the events surrounding the meeting was characterised by "personal differences, backstabbing, vanua rivalry, politicla rivalry, jeolousy, and the traditional power stuggle".

The nation is waiting for the decision of the President on reconvening the Parliament.

The People's Coalition Government has recommended that the Parliament be reconvened, and dissolved to make way for a fresh election, with a caretaker government appointed from the Parliament to take the country to the new election.
