More businesses close

More businesses are closing as the country continues to slump downward.

One more garment factory, Melbourne Garments Ltd. closed its doors on Thursday. This caught its 50 workers unawares. The owners are shifting their machinery out of Fiji.

In Lautoka the DG Garments Ltd, employing about 400 workers, has not been able to pay its workers for the past two weeks and ceased operations this week on Wednesday.

In the same trend, the Fujitsu Computer company announced that it was moving out of Fiji. The decision, according to media reports, is based on an evaluation of computer related business opportunities in Fiji. The decision is a clear indication a lack of confidence of the investors in the information technology sector.

The People's Coalition Government had begun a major program to boost the IT industry in Fiji which received support from the IT industry in Fiji. Over 20,000 jobs were expected to be created in the industry over the next decade.

Meanwhile the Sheraton Resorts has announced that it will reopen one of its hotels, Sheraton Royal coming week. The hotel was closed in June after the terrorist activities. The reopening is seen as a preparation for the country returning to democracy and an expected increase in tourist arrivals as a consequence.
