Issue No: 590; 15 March 2001A company in which SVT Finance Minister Jim Ah Koy has family interests is the major rate defaulter in Suva City. Information on major rate defaulters released by the Suva City Council (SCC) lists Kelton Investments Ltd as leading the list with it owing $303,105 to the council. The company is run by Jim Ah Koy's son Michael Ah Koy. SCC Mayor, Chandu Umaria has been quoted by the media as saying: "Attempts have been made to contact Mr. Ah Koy for the due rates and at one time he even sent a cheque of 35,000 dollars to SCC but it was dishonoured at the bank. Kelton Investments Ltd has been the subject of public interest
for some time now. One of its subsidiary companies is the subject of a court
