Terrorists cannot bring about Ethnic Fijian Unity-GCC

The Great Council of Chiefs says that the terrorists can not being about reconciliation and the unity of ethnic Fijians.

In an interview with the Fiji Sun, the GCC's Chairman stated: "Freeing George Speight and his group from Nukulau is a matter that is in the capable hands of the law enforcement agencies to decide."

"I do not agree through that freeing them is one quick way of uniting Fijians."

"It will not ensure Fijian unity because those proclaiming to support this view are actually saying that lawless Fijians can bring about Fijian unity."

"My understanding is that the Fijian unity that is being addressed now is referring to the Fijian political unity."

"I am of the view that Fijian unity cannot be achieved through any political base, but it can be achieved through strengthening and consolidation of the Vanua system or base."

"Freedom of political association has already been given to the Fijians and it would be practically impossible to try and accommodate these system has the infrastructure and the potential to absorb these political difference and come to consensus. "

Meanwhile, the SVT has reiterated its call to free the terrorists who are now facing treason charges.
