Seruvakula report not found in President's office

Issue No: 721; 2 May 2001

The President's Office claims that the report given to the President on the involvement of senior military officers in the 19 May terrorist activities, is not there.

Lt. Col. Viliame Seruvakula had stated in an interview that a comprehensive report on the involvement of military and other people in the 19 May activities was submitted to the President. The President is also the Commander-in-Chief of the military.

Today's Fiji Times reports the Official Secretary in the President's Office Jeremaia Waqanisau as saying that since January, "I have never sent that intelligence report" He further stated: "It's ridiculous to be making those claims because people are interested to know what is in those reports and who are involved. We are implicated by those claims and people are saying that we are hiding the report because our names are in it. This is not true". He stated: "we do not have [the report]".

No comment has been made by the military on this report. Seruvakula has left eh military for a top New Zealand military job.
