SVT wants Ratu Mara investigated

Issue No: 724 2 May 2001

The SVT has called for former President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara to be investigated for withholding information.

The media reports the SVT's spokesperson, Ema Drauvesi as saying that Ratu Mara should be questioned on why he did not give the information on the Rabuka and Savua involvement in the 19 May attempted coup to the police earlier. She claimed that Mara had given a statement to the police earlier.

Numerous SVT politicians have been actively linked to the terrorists.

There is a concerted effort by pro-terrorist individuals and organisations, to discredit people with information on the terrorists. The SVT call comes only days after the Police Commissioner had claimed that he would get Lt. Col. Viliame Seruvakula extradited from NZ for investigations into the attempted coup. Seruvakula had revealed the involvement of numerous persons in the coup.

For the past many weeks also, the police, led by Savua, has been actively involved in investigating the victims of thugs and criminals rather than the criminals themselves. Three high profile incidences have been reported by this website. These include the investigation of why a victim of an armed robbery called his relatives to his defence; an investigation of a woman who miscarried after being assaulted by the police, and an investigation of Chandrika Prasad.

People's confidence in the police force is at an all-time low, and is continuing to decline.

Meanwhile, the SVT also claims that some chiefs have been responsible for the division within the ethnic Fijian community.
