FLP files writ on Constitution Review

Issue No: 781; 21 May 2001

The Fiji Labour Party has filed another writ trying to stop the work of the reappointed Constitution review Commission.

The FLP was granted an interim injunction in January against the CRC. The CRC had stopped sitting as a result and its members were stopped payments.

But after the Fiji Court of Appeal decision upholding the 1997 Constitution, the regime disbanded the CRC and reappointed the members to continue with the work. The move was seen as a blatant disregard to the court decision.

The Labour Party writ was filed on Friday in the Lautoka High Court.
