Issue No: 792; 24 May 2001The General Manager of the Native Lands trust Board, Maika Qarikau, owes the Fijian Affairs Board over $4,000. This was revealed at the Cakaudrove Provincial Council by the Fijian Affairs Board. The Board issued loans to ethnic Fijians under the government's self-help project scheme. Qarikau had borrowed $5,000 in 1995 and to date has repaid only $802. Qarikau was a prominent supporter of the terrorists who took
over the Parliament Complex last year. He was also Speight's choice of Minister
for Lands. Qarikau is related to former Prime Minister and alleged mastermind of
the attempted coup, Sitiveni Rabuka. |
