Information Ministry in treasonous conduct

Issue No: 882; 25 June 2001

The regime's Ministry of Information has taken the unprecedented step of telling the public that the Constitution is undesirable.

A document which it has started circulation, called "The Truth", the Ministry claims that the Constitution has numerous defects and that it needs to be amended. The document called for a Constitution which ensured ethnic Fijian political supremacy.

The release and circulation a document by a Government Ministry condemning the very foundation of the existence of government and state in Fiji, is a tragic indictment of the senior civil servants and the Qarase regime ministers.

The act is nothing but treasonous.

The existence of the document was highlighted by the Sunday Sun. A column written by Sun journalist Raymond Singh quoted extensively from the document.

The security forces have not reacted to the document. It is believed that an official complaint against the Ministry officials and the regime Minister responsible will be lodged today.
