Police Commissioner breaks law

Issue No: 972; 25 July 2001

Commissioner of Police Isikia Savua violated the Tobacco Control Act 1998 by smoking at Nadi's Prince Charles Park during the Battle of the Giants tournament in the weekend.

Fiji FA secretary Bob Kumar informed the Sun that smoking banned in the public places was a good idea. According to him, Battle of the Giants tournament organisers have continuously been announcing the alert warning. Some people smoked despite the alert warning, he said. Mr Kumar also told the Sun that it was Police's responsibility to arrest those breaking the law.

What happens when the Police Boss breaks law?

The front-page picture in today's Sun shows Savua enjoying his smoke at Nadi's Prince Charles Park. The Tobacco Control Act 1998 does not allow smoking in such public places.
