SVT members were in Speight cabinet

Issue No: 988; 31 July 2001

Numerous members of the SVT in the 1999 Parliament were made members of the George Speight cabinet after the Speight terrorists took the elected government hostage.

This information is revealed by the Acting Editor of the Daily Post Mesake Koroi in his column in the paper yesterday.

Koroi was commenting on the reports that the lawyer for the terrorists Vodo Tuberi was sent to the Parliament Complex by the SVT to get the SVT Members of Parliament freed.

Koroi writes:

" SVT parliamentarians were never in any danger at all. George only had his eyes on Mahendra Chaudhry and members of his Coalition group."

"In fact soon after the take over of Parliament, Speight attended a meeting with SVT MP's at Ratu Inoke Kubuabola's office who was Leader of the Opposition then."

"They were never detained nor were they in any danger at any time. In fact an hour after the take over several SVT parliamentarians were named in George Speight's Cabinet line up with Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure as the Attorney General."

Koroi also alleges that the terrorists have now infiltrated numerous other political parties. He writes:

"Anyway, as we look deeper into the political arena right now it gets more bizarre. It appears that a fair number of rebels who were in parliament with George Speight appear to have infiltrated the political arena."

"Like the aliens Moulder is fighting against in the X File, rebels have a strong grip on the political front. They are in every political party."

"This is a dangerous trend. I am beginning to wonder what kind of parliament we will have after the August election."
