Tora threatens again

Issue No: 993; 2 August 2001

Qarase regime cabinet minister and terrorist, Apisai Tora has again threatened the nation with destabilisation.

The media reports Tora as saying "Politics is the art of the possible" in response to the question on whether he had an assurance that there would be a repeat of the terrorist uprising again this year.

While claiming that he had no hand in the terrorist uprising last year, Tora refused to promise callers to the radio talk back show who wanted to know whether he would again be involved in any illegal activities.

Tora was a main conspirator against the elected government. He owed state financial institutions millions of dollars and had wanted the elected People's Coalition Government to write these debts off. Tora began agitating when the government refused to do this. One of his properties was sold under mortgagee sale.

It is known that the terrorists have got copies of tapes of their discussions with Tora. Tora was investigated for his role, but has not been charged as yet. The Police Commissioner Isikia Savua is related to Tora.
